Metaphysics: Its Meaning, Nature, and Relevance to Man and Society
INTRODUCTION
Philosophy as the love for wisdom beams its searchlight towards every aspect of human endeavour where knowledge could be acquired. However, to effectively carry out this task, it is sub-divided into different branches, with each focusing on a given aspect of reality. These divisions or branches of philosophy include Epistemology, Logic, Ethics, Aesthetic, and Metaphysics, etc.
This work, however, centres on the branch of philosophy known as metaphysics. The aim is to undergo an extensive exposition of the meaning, nature, scope, and relevance of metaphysics to man and society. Accordingly, our discourse on the subject is categorized in that order. Experience has shown that the majority of those who misconceive and dread philosophy do so mainly with regard to the metaphysics aspect of it. Their grouse with metaphysics is that for them metaphysics is synonymous with occultism and mysticism. Besides, they complain that metaphysics is rife with abstract and hair-splitting terms.
Part of the aim of this work is, therefore, to demystify metaphysics by presenting it in the simplest manner such that every class of people in the society can read and comprehend it without the assistance of a professional philosopher. Apart from presenting a detailed explanation of the meaning of metaphysics, other issues such as the sub-divisions of metaphysics as well as the basic elements or fundamental questions of metaphysics were adequately treated. The work was concluded with a consideration of the relevance of metaphysics to man and society.

Ethical Issues in Capital Punishment
Capital punishment is one of the basic issues in applied ethics. As a concept which bothers much on justice, it is also a critical issue in legal philosophy wherein it is examined under the umbrella of ‘corrective justice’. Although virtually every known human society has practised it at one time or the other in the course of its existence, its usefulness and effectiveness as an instrument for corrective justice is increasingly coming under serious attacks in this modern time. Capital punishment has generated debates which have raged on for over four hundred years. That capital punishment has been abolished in most of the industrialized countries of the world is a development that calls for sober reflection. The purpose of this work, therefore, is to examine some ethical issues involved in capital punishment, with a view to determining whether its continued practice can ever be justified in this modern time and, if so, under what circumstances. It also examines critically, the various points and arguments adduced by the existing schools of thought in defence of their respective positions.

The North and Political Economy of Nigeria Revenue Allocation in Nigeria
The current controversy between Northern Governors and their Southern Counterparts, over how oil revenues
accruing to the Nigerians should be shared has created a deep gulf in the ranks of the governors. In the last
few days, the governors have been polarized under ethnic and regional lines over who gets what from the
Federation Account. Political and opinion leaders across the polity have also joined the fray politicians in the
nineteen (19) northern states want the fund to be abolished or its percentage significantly reduced because its
sustenance not only puts the north at a is advantaged but also poses danger for the part of the country where
literacy, poverty, ignorance and general backwardness are on the rise. The oil producing states, on the other
hand are determined to fight back to protect their right and push for a progressive increase in the derivation
formula up to fight (50) percent to cushion the impacts of years of marginalization and environmental
degradation by the oil companies in the region political watchers fear that the oil producing states could revive
the age long agitation for total resource cont control or demand a review of the current derivation formula from
the current 13 percent to 50 percent. All seem not lost for the North. The region may begin to enjoy a special
derivation from solid minerals based on ongoing arrangement by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal
Allocation Commission (RMFC). Despite the criticisms there are indications, that the north was ready to go
the whole hog as the region recently set up the ten (10) Committees to harmonise its interest. The paper
concludes by positing that the Northern agitation is rather, a product of deep seated envy and parochial
interest.

Christianity and Socio-Economic Disorder in Africa: An Igbo Perspective
INTRODUCTION
Christianity, like every other religion, carries with it certain cultural imperatives. The terms "religion and culture" are often used in a rather confusing manner. Some use the two terms as if they were two sides of the same coin: that is, in contexts that suggest that religion is one half of a whole and culture the other half. Others use the two terms in a way that suggests an opinion that one could be interchanged with for the other; in other words, that religion and culture mean one and the same thing.
Admittedly, Religion and Culture are related in a special way which is not easily discernible without a close examination. But it is hardly the case that any of the above understandings of religion and culture is exactly correct. The two terms can neither be used interchangeably nor can they be regarded as two parts of a single thing, rather one - that is religion is part of the other - culture.
