The main idea of philosophy plays a significant role in human reasoning. It changes the role of material circumstances in human activities, it invokes the notions of human agency and it depicts generally acceptable meaning of historian events. It ensures the willingness of full understanding of ourselves in the present by understanding the choices, the forces and circumstances that results to our present situation and it also ensures a possible learning from history; that is; the Past. These reflections can be amalgamated together into a body of work to ensure a philosophy of history. In ensuring the Plurality of voices within the philosophy of history; it is impossible to give one explanation of the field that fits all these approaches. We can sensibly think of philosopher’s writings concerning history as entailing metaphysics, historicism, epistemology and hermeneutics including several important questions: - Does History in general have structure, meaning, direction beyond the individual actions and events that makes it up? - To what degree is human history constitutive of the human represent? - What does history comprise of –social structures, regions, periods, individual actions, large casual processes, civilizations, divine intervention? - What is entailed in our representing, knowing and defining history?
Abstract. Over the years, there has been a running battle between the universalists and the relativists as to which stand is correct vis-à-vis the philosophical notions of knowledge and morality. Whereas for the universalists morality is universal, eternal, and unchanging, the relativists hold that man is the measure of all things and accordingly, that morality is relative to each individual and/or culture. The universalists contend that our idea of judgment and belief must have standards that they must meet independently of anyone’s propensity to accept it. The relativists built their philosophy on the foundation that there exists extreme variation in customs, manners, religions vis-à-vis different human societies, just as moral beliefs and attitudes of individuals are basically learnt from their own cultural environments. It is on the basis of the alleged absence of all-time and all-place valid standards of truth or morality that the universalists launched a devastating attack on the relativists, arguing that there would be neither moral progress nor any basis for scientifico-technological knowledge if everybody or culture is right about his or its belief or claim to knowledge. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to critically examine the philosophical concept of relativism within the context of knowledge, truth and morality. Through a thorough and critical analysis, the paper demonstrates the latent implications relativism portends for knowledge, the quest for authentic existence as well as social order. On the whole, the paper took a position that notwithstanding the obvious shortcomings of relativism, it has some rich and positive ingredients that could be exploited in our attempt to explore the nature of knowledge and truth, the search for authentic personal existence as well as social order.

Abstract John Locke's (1632-1704) concept of tabula rasa of the mind of the newborn baby implies that the newborn only achieves knowledge of what is good or bad, likes or dislikes, or -what he/she needs, as a result of experience after birth; that at birth such abilities are absent. In this paper, we present three case studies on newborn babies studied from birth to age 2-weeks for their ability to pay selective attention to events or things that seem to reflect their abilities to appreciate a need or beauty. These abilities include locating the source of food, attracting caregiver's attention to their needs and following the movement of beautiful objects but ignore less beautiful ones. We conclude that it is not only through experience after birth that the child's mind is formed: that the mind is already occupied and functional at birth.

ABSTRACT Proverbs (ufied) is one of the systems of communication that are passed from one generation to another and are derived from society’s experience and thoughts over a long period of years. Over the years, its understanding and usage has been taken to be the sole rights of the elders in traditional societies. This paper discusses the writing styles that are found in Annang social proverbs (ufied) and to show that they are an embodiment of knowledge and virtue, extant and relevant in contemporary Nigerian society. These findings are contributions to a better understanding of proverbs as a tool for national development. The historical phenomenology was used in the study. Data collection was from primary and secondary sources. Consequently, the study recommended that government at the local, state and national levels should ensure that adequate security measures are put in place to curb crimes and insurgencies in the society. Also, traditional rulers, priests, votaries of Annang traditional religion should help promote and educate their subjects and others on the need to preserve Annang folklore as a language of social communication. Finally, the print and television media is an educative medium and as such should be made to feed from a reservoir of a well established and documented Annang literature.
In life as grown-ups, we know that it is pertinent to emulate particular attributes that point to bravery and greatness. A stance we have sincerely maintained as a principle, believing also in its worth thus, that it shall be one of the greatest treasures that we would leave behind when we are finally gone. Significant of these attributes is the fact that it is life when we are no longer here, for only our good or bad deeds count as our legacies, when we would have departed this tough world for our ancestral sweet home - Heaven. A principle which also gave birth to this work, A Million Miles Away. About six years ago (17th October, 2003), the 33rd Osana of Keana kingdom was enthroned, an event which opened the gate way to the entire society to say what they deemed fit on the personality involved, Senator Sir Emmanuel Onyatikpo Elayo. A Million Miles Away is one of those works, adapting its unique dimension. It is basically an academic searchlight that beams all through the tunnels of the life events of the personality in his over seven decades in this world. Perhaps for the authors, the Philanthropic and Magnanimous qualities of the personality in question captured their interest in him. As such, it then behoved on us that no matter how much it rains on a leopard its beautiful spots do not wash away, rather they get brighter. And so like the leopard’s spots, it is also difficult to erase the ink when it has been printed on the slates.
