Els 102 Introduction to Nigerian Literature
Having read clash of divinity, one can see the clash between the Christians and the traditional worshippers. This text is a fiction; it takes care of religious violent and cultural conflict. In the text, humans are seen fighting for divinity and making themselves vulnerable to destruction. Instances of human avenging for divinity can be seen in page 130, when Seventeen Seventeen set out to disrupt the congregation of the assemblies of divine. Seventeen Seventeen reverence the Omaha tradition over the worship of God. Likewise Dinma who was also against the traditional worship. Again in page 131, Seventeen Seventeen interrupted the church service, beat up Dinma and molested his wife just to prove how despicable he considers the things of God.
Humanity fighting for divinity is a situation that lingers on in our society as we see from religious feuds going on. There should be no interference of humans in the fight of divinities. They are supreme powers and if they have been offended by anyone, they can readily punish such person but we see people going extreme and killing fellow human as in the name of avenging divinity. When these actions are taken most times, it results in more calamity than was bargained for and this proves a point.
